When Otonashi wakes up, he discovers he is no longer alive. They're in the afterlife, and Otonashi learns the only thing he remembers about himself is his name, thanks to a rifle-toting female named Yuri. Yuri informs him that she is the leader of the Shinda Sekai Sensen (Afterlife Battlefront), which is at war with Tenshi. Otonashi tries to talk to Tenshi since he doesn't believe Yuri's allegations that she is wicked, but the conversation doesn't go as planned.
