A mystery object crashes on Earth, igniting a wildfire near Gohan Son, Kuririn, Bulma, and Oolong's campsite. They decide to utilize the Dragon Balls to return the forest to its original state because they are unable to totally preserve it. A few days later, a group of unknown warriors plant a seed where the mystery equipment had crashed, resulting in the growth of a massive tree that destroys the forest and adjacent cities. North Kaio calls Gokuu Son and informs him that this tree is the "Shinseiju"—a tree that takes all of the planet's nutrients and leaving it a desolate wasteland while producing a giant fruit capable of offering immense power to anybody who consumes it. Gokuu and his friends were shocked to learn about this.
