Fuutarou Uesugi is an excellent high school student who has an otherwise difficult existence. His aloof manner and reclusive behavior have left him friendless, and his father is in debt, forcing his family to eke out a living. During his lunch break one day, Uesugi gets into an argument with a female transfer student who has taken "his seat," causing both of them to resent each other. On the same day, he is given with a wonderful chance to pay off his family's debt: a private tutoring contract for a wealthy family's daughter at five times the market rate. He accepts the proposition, but is shocked to learn that the customer, Itsuki Nakano, is the same girl he challenged before! Uesugi gives up on attempting to get back on Itsuki's good side.
