Maria is a strong teenage witch who lives in medieval France with her two familiars during the Hundred Years' War against England. As the war rages on and innocent people are caught up in its devastation, Maria grows tired of the situation and begins using her magic to attempt to avert additional fighting in the hopes of preserving peace. Her continuous interference, however, quickly draws the notice of the heavens, and the archangel Michael is dispatched to restrain her from interfering in human matters. Maria is confronted by the heavenly entity, and he prevents her from utilizing her abilities, issuing a decree that her magic would be gone if she loses her virginity. Despite being dubbed a heretic, Maria refuses to listen to Michael's warning and persists.
